There is an elongated island collectively called Iles de la Madeleine, or Magdalen Islands in the Gulf of St. Lawrence. It belongs to the Quebec province in Canada but is farther away from it than the neighboring provinces of Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia. Over the years, the island has been eroded, and though the main industries are tourism and oyster exporting, nobody knows how long the island may last. Their common language is French. The total land area is about 200 square kilometers with a population close to 13000.
